The Gibbon Conservation Society (GCS), a Malaysian NGO, was unofficially founded in 2013. The organization advocates for a holistic approach to conservation, addressing issues through rehabilitation, combating wildlife trade, empowering individuals, collaborating with communities, contributing to scientific research, and promoting global awareness.
GCS is known for its dynamic growth and continuous innovation. The society's journey began when founder Mariani Ramli, also known as Bam, was unexpectedly entrusted with the care of an infant gibbon. With little prior knowledge about the species, Bam immersed herself in research, adhered to international guidelines, and sought advice from global experts. Her dedication to continual learning and improvement has enabled GCS to establish Malaysia's only internationally accredited rehabilitation center for gibbons and to become a model for similar initiatives worldwide.
Bam’s initial goal was simply to aid that first infant gibbon, but the scope of her mission quickly expanded. Today, the Gibbon Conservation Society remains driven by the desire to provide the best possible care for these endangered animals, consistently seeking innovative solutions to enhance their well-being and survival.
